Unlike many modern blockchain projects, Bitcoin did not have a private sale, ICO, or pre-allocation to a foundation or team.

• Fair Launch: All BTC in circulation has been issued through the mining process since the Genesis block in 2009.
• Current Distribution: While the protocol does not mandate specific allocations, significant portions of the supply are held by various entities. Usage and Incentive Mechanism

The Bitcoin ecosystem relies on a system of economic incentives to maintain security and facilitate utility.

• Primary Functions: BTC is used for peer-to-peer payments, value storage (digital gold), and settling network transaction fees.
• Miner Incentives: Miners are incentivized to provide computational power (hash power) through two primary revenue streams:
  1. Block Rewards: Newly minted BTC provided for every block added to the chain.
  2. Transaction Fees: Fees paid by users to have their transactions included in a block.

Locking and Unlocking Mechanisms

In the core Bitcoin protocol, there is no native "staking" or "vesting" schedule for the core supply, as all tokens are liquid once mined. However, specific technical and ecosystem-level locking mechanisms exist:

• Script-Based Locking: Bitcoin uses a system of "locking scripts" and "unlocking scripts" to manage transactions. A locking script is a spending condition placed on an output (UTXO), while an unlocking script provides the data (such as a digital signature) required to satisfy that condition and spend the funds.
• Time-Locks: Scripts can include time-based conditions (CLTV or CSV) that prevent BTC from being spent until a certain block height or timestamp is reached. This is frequently used in second-layer solutions like the Lightning Network or for atomic cross-chain swaps.
• Ecosystem Staking: While Bitcoin itself does not have native staking, third-party protocols (such as Core Chain or Babylon) allow users to "lock" or "stake" Bitcoin to earn rewards or secure other networks.
