PETALING JAYA: MCA president Wee Ka Siong has disputed claims that Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) are working together to take control of the Johor government, citing four seats in which the coalitions are contesting against each other in the state polls.
He said MCA was involved in three-cornered contests under the BN banner in Jementah, Paloh, Layang-Layang, and Stulang against Pakatan Harapan (PH) and PN.
“This is enough to answer accusations by PH and DAP that PN is helping BN. I attended a ceramah in Jementah last night where I campaigned for BN candidate See Ann Giap, who is contesting against DAP and PAS.
“If PN has been making way for MCA, why does our candidate have to contest against PH and PN?” Sinar Harian reported him as saying today.
Wee also rejected claims that defeated MCA candidates would be appointed as assemblymen or to the state executive council, saying such appointments would go against the state constitution.
“Spreading such fiction may be sensational, but cannot change facts and reality,” he said.
DAP’s former Mengkibol assemblyman Chew Chong Sin previously claimed that there was a secret pact for the Johor state election between BN and PN, based on the 33 candidates PN is fielding.
Johor Umno dismissed Chew’s claim, saying BN had held no talks with PN.
State BN chief Onn Hafiz Ghazi said BN would govern Johor alone if it won the state election, while PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said his party aimed to serve as an “adviser” to the government from the opposition bench.
