SHAH ALAM, June 29 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) has directed that an urgent meeting be held between the deceased’s next of kin, the management of Masjid Nurul Hidayah, Kampung Pandan Dalam, the Salatulrahim Welfare Organisation (BKS), and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) to resolve the issue surrounding allegations of delays in the burial of a deceased person at the Ukay Perdana Muslim Cemetery in Hulu Kelang.

Mais chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin said the meeting is intended to achieve the best possible resolution for all parties involved while ensuring that a similar incident does not occur in the future.

“Mais extends its deepest condolences to the family affected by the alleged delay in the burial at the Ukay Perdana Muslim Cemetery, Hulu Kelang, and expresses its profound sorrow over the ordeal experienced by the family during their time of grief.

“Mais assures the public that appropriate action will be taken against any party found responsible based on the findings of the police investigation, whether the matter involves criminal conduct, negligence, or miscommunication among the parties involved,” he said in a statement issued today.

Salehuddin added that Mais has taken note of the media statement released by Jais director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad last Saturday regarding the preliminary findings of the investigation, which were based on information provided by the mosque’s management concerning the incident.

He said that Mais had also been informed that the mosque management, the deceased’s family, and the BKS had each lodged police reports regarding the incident.

In light of this, he urged all parties to allow the police to conduct their investigation in a transparent and impartial manner.

At the same time, Salehuddin said Mais will review the current management of Islamic funeral and burial procedures carried out by mosque managements and identify areas where improvements can be made.

“This is to ensure that the management of Muslim deceased persons is carried out responsibly and with integrity, in an orderly and efficient manner, while fully complying with the requirements of Islamic law,” he said.

He also advised the Muslim community to continue strengthening the spirit of unity and brotherhood (ukhuwah) and not allow differences of opinion on any issue to become a source of division and hostility. — Bernama
