Mark Gordon, partner and broker at Christiania Realty in Vail, Colorado, has been elected President-Elect of the Colorado Association of Realtors (CAR) for 2027-2028. He will assume the role on December 1, 2026, as the state’s real estate industry grapples with significant shifts, including the aftermath of the National Association of Realtors settlement, the rise of artificial intelligence, brokerage consolidation, and an ongoing affordability crisis.
Gordon’s election was decided by CAR’s Board of Directors, a group of about 120 members representing real estate associations across Colorado. Rather than relying on a traditional platform, Gordon prioritized one-on-one conversations with board members, sending handwritten cards to all 120 voters at the start of his campaign. “I always think of a campaign as a conversation, not as a sales pitch,” Gordon said. “A conversation involves listening and talking, listening first and responding and engaging with people.”
Gordon’s path to this leadership role is rooted in his experience in Vail, a market that operates differently from much of Colorado. The Vail market is cash-driven, more closely tied to the Dow Jones than to interest rates, and constrained by national forest boundaries that limit sprawl. According to Gordon, it tends to be “the slowest into corrections and the first to recover.” This vantage point has shaped his approach to statewide issues, which he has been studying as chair of CAR’s Insight Advisory Committee, a think tank producing white papers on emerging industry trends.
Gordon is also a director with the National Association of Realtors, representing Colorado’s small and medium boards, and previously served on the board of the Residential Real Estate Council. His leadership experience includes serving on the Vail Town Council from 2005 to 2009, where he applied a similar approach of engaging with constituents, particularly those who disagreed with him.
During his campaign, Gordon attended regional summits and conferences to engage with members from districts far from his mountain community. He has been candid about the challenges ahead, describing the industry as being “in a transition” where “sometimes you feel like you might be standing on quicksand.” He sees organized real estate as a key force for advocacy, pointing to CAR’s successful effort to defeat a proposed vacancy tax at the Colorado state legislature. “Advocacy works,” Gordon said. “Realtors working together along with other organizations really can make a huge difference for homeownership and the American dream.”
Gordon has also spoken about the role of artificial intelligence, arguing that agents who use AI as a replacement for human connection will struggle. “If every company uses AI without humans, they’re all going to be the same,” he said, emphasizing that the combination of AI and human creativity can differentiate services. He has also raised concerns about insurance availability, describing it as one of the most pressing and underreported challenges for Colorado homeowners. During a Washington D.C. trip with fellow realtors, he pressed both of Colorado’s U.S. senators for federal engagement on the issue.
As President-Elect, Gordon will spend the coming year preparing to lead an organization representing thousands of Colorado real estate professionals. His career, from Vail Town Council to state president-elect, reflects a focus on showing up where decisions are made. His work in the Vail luxury market continues through Christiania Realty, where he has spent almost two decades navigating one of Colorado’s most distinctive property markets.
