Conservative political commentator Tucker Carlson alleged Thursday that President Donald Trump ordered the FBI to shut down its investigation into Thomas Crooks, the man accused of attempting to assassinate the president in 2024.
In his Thursday interview with Mario Nawal, a Lebanese-Australian entrepreneur and prominent podcast host, Carlson claimed former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino told him in December that Trump halted the probe.

Carlson explained he pressed Bongino about Crooks' online presence, which he alleges the FBI misrepresented as nonexistent, according to Newsweek. But Bongino allegedly became hysterical and eventually told him, "Take it up with Trump, he's the one who shut down the investigation."
Carlson said he found no legitimate explanation for Trump shutting down an investigation into his own attempted murder.
The claim comes as fresh scrutiny surrounds the assassination attempt, including newly obtained emails between Crooks and a Butler County Sheriff's deputy, in addition to omissions in toxicology reports.
Bongino vehemently denied Carlson's account Friday, calling him a lying "nepo baby" on X.
“He’s like Teddy Ruxpin, you put a coin in his back and he tells you a story,” he added.
