THE Office of the President will provide more than P1 million in financial assistance to the families of victims of the school shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Malacañang said on Wednesday.
Palace Press Officer Clarissa A. Castro said during a news briefing that the families of the three students who died in the incident will each receive P150,000, while the 18 students who were injured will each be given P50,000.
She said the aid is separate from assistance earlier extended by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Education (DepEd).
Ms. Castro said President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. was deeply saddened by the tragedy.
She added that the government has assured the victims’ families that justice will be served, while the DepEd has strengthened school safety measures, including the installation of metal detectors and closed-circuit television cameras. — Erika Mae P. Sinaking
