Carlos, Eldrew Yulo strike floor exercise gold, bronze in Asian championships

MANILA, Philippines – It’s no longer a question: two of the continent’s best gymnasts come from the same family.

Carlos and Eldrew Yulo secured a one-three finish for the Philippines in the senior men’s floor exercise final of the 2026 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Zunyi, China, on Saturday, June 20.

Carlos, 26, defended his gold in his pet event with 14.7 points, while 18-year-old Eldrew bagged bronze with 14.3 points, marking the first time the brothers won medals in the same major senior tournament.

Japan’s Shoma Tsukiyama clinched silver with 14.6 points.

An Olympic double gold medalist, Carlos captured the floor exercise crown for the fifth straight edition and raised his tally in the continental showdown to 12 golds overall.

It could have been Carlos’ second medal of the contest, but he fell short in the individual all-around event, placing fourth.

Meanwhile, Eldrew earned his first senior medal in the Asian championships and his fourth podium finish of the year, having won one gold and two bronzes in the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series.

Debuting as a senior in March, Eldrew did not take long in announcing his arrival as he copped the floor exercise gold in the Antalya World Cup in Turkey.

The Yulos get a crack at more medals as Carlos competes in the horizontal bar and parallel bars final, while Eldrew will join his older brother in the horizontal bar final on Sunday, June 21.

Carlos advanced as the fourth-best qualifier in the parallel bars final and the eighth-best qualifier in the horizontal bar final, a spot behind Eldrew. – Rappler.com
