MEXICO CITY: Colombia talisman James Rodriguez was named in the starting line-up for their World Cup Group K opener against debutants Uzbekistan, while Eldor Shomurodov led the Central Asian side in their tournament bow.
Colombia captain Rodriguez, 34, was deemed fit to start in his third World Cup after recent fitness concerns.
Coach Nestor Lorenzo also included Luis Suarez and Luis Diaz in attack as Colombia returned to the tournament for the first time since 2018.
Uzbekistan striker Shomurodov, their all-time leading scorer with 44 goals, captained the side on their World Cup debut.
Abdukodir Khusanov anchored a five-man defence deployed by coach Fabio Cannavaro.
