PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional have been accused of committing election offences in the Johor election campaign by using government resources to win voter support.

Muda president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said the two parties have used government machinery to garner support from civil servants, youths and recipients of state and federal government initiatives.

She said Hulu Langat MP Sany Hamzan, who is also deputy chairman of Tabung Ekonomi Kumpulan Usaha Niaga (Tekun) had conducted visits around the Maharani state constituency using the institution’s machinery.

Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who is also Mara chairman, had held a Mara TVET programme together with the BN candidate for the Tiram seat, she said.

Amira also referred to concerns raised by electoral watchdog Bersih over the alleged use of government assets during the Johor polls campaign, including the broadcast of a PH ceramah on RTM.

She claimed that Johor Kasih aid baskets had been distributed statewide, 3,000 RM50 Madani Shuttle Selatan commuter cards had been distributed to Johoreans, and the youth and sports ministry had organised a programme offering free motorcycle engine oil changes.

“I think Muda does not need to remind the government that all these activities and programmes are using government resources funded by the taxes of all Malaysians.

“The agenda of cleaning up elections from dirty politics and abuse of power should not only be a political slogan when in opposition, but must also continue when entrusted with governing,” she said.

Last week, Amira questioned the timing of housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming’s announcement of a RM216.44 million allocation for housing development and community welfare in Johor.

The former Puteri Wangsa assemblyman criticised the government’s practice of distributing “election goodies” whenever elections are held.

Johoreans will go to the ballot box on July 11, with early voting set for July 7.
