PETALING JAYA: The head of Tebrau PKR’s youth wing today said that the Chinese community must not back Parti Bersama Malaysia’s candidates in the Johor election, as it would risk splitting Pakatan Harapan’s votes.

Jalex Lee said Bersama, which was taken over by two former PKR leaders, appeared focused on winning over the Chinese electorate by highlighting issues affecting the community, Utusan Malaysia reported.

“PH’s objective, on the other hand, is to form the state government for the benefit of all Johoreans as it (the state government) would be aligned with the federal government,” Lee, PH’s candidate for Pemanis, was quoted as saying.

Lee did not elaborate on issues affecting the Chinese community. However, Bersama’s Perling candidate Boo Wei Han previously broached the subject of pig farming, a contentious issue in Selangor following a call for a complete end to the activity in the state.

It was previously reported that Chinese voters comprise 36.7% of the electorate.

PH is contesting all 56 seats in the Johor polls, while Bersama has fielded 15 candidates for the July 11 election.
