KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 — While the RM1 interbank ATM withdrawal fee was waived on 1 July 2026, banks clarified today that users must still distinguish between bank-operated and non-bank tellers to avoid unexpected charges.

According to a joint statement from The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and others, the fee waiver applies exclusively to ATMs operated by banks nationwide.

“Bank-operated ATMs clearly display a single bank’s name and logo on the exterior of the ATM and on the ATM screen,” the groups said,

However, standard fees may still apply when using non-bank operated ATMs, which generally display the logos of multiple different banks.

The initiative — implemented in collaboration with other industry associations and Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) — eliminates the RM1 charge previously applied when customers withdrew cash from a bank other than their own.

ABM noted that the move is designed to ease the cost of living and ensure that the everyday banking needs of the rakyat are prioritised.

For further information on the implementation of the waiver, customers should refer to their bank’s official website, mobile application, or customer contact centre.
