Sanusi’s clean sweep in Kedah claim a pipe dream, say 2 PH reps

PETALING JAYA: Two Pakatan Harapan assemblymen laughed off Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor’s claim that Perikatan Nasional would be able to win all 36 seats in the next state election, labelling it a pipe dream.

PKR’s Bau Wong Bau Ek said voters would assess a state government based on its performance and not mere perception.

“Sanusi has outlined many goals for Kedah, but none of them has been realised,” the Sidam assemblyman told FMT.

Bau also said support for PN is likely to dwindle in view of the schism in the coalition.

“In the last polls, PN had benefitted from Bersatu’s help and protest votes from Umno, but this time around, support would be divided,” he said, referring to PAS’s recent decision to sever ties with Bersatu.

On Friday, Sanusi said he was confident that PN would be able to achieve a clean sweep in the next state election.

At the 2023 polls, PN secured 33 seats, while PH managed to obtain only three.

In response, Pokok Sena Umno chief Said Ali Said Rastan said the slow pace of the development and economic growth in Kedah called into question PN’s ability to win all 36 seats.

Separately, DAP’s Teh Swee Leong said Sanusi’s remarks were mere rhetoric and far removed from reality.

He said the PAS-PN “wave” was not as strong as it was made out to be, noting the changing political landscape and how voters were now assessing the government’s performance.

“Voters are no longer swayed by proclamations on a landslide win,” the Kota Darul Aman assemblyman said.

He said the state government should focus on basic issues, such as clean water supply, infrastructure and implementing mega projects.

“The people of Kedah want to see results and resolutions, not just listen to meaningless slogans. In a democracy, no one seat belongs exclusively to a party forever,” he said.
